We run a nine week course for puppies which have received their inoculations. Normally the upper age limit to start the course is twenty weeks, although very occasionally an exception may be made. The course is an ideal “next step” after puppy parties – but naturally is open to all puppies. Our class numbers are kept low so that every owner and puppy has individual attention and we are always happy to give advice on any problem you may be experiencing out of class.
Puppies enjoy learning from an early age provided lessons are fun, the methods used are kind and lessons are kept short. We use only gentle, reward based methods to teach your puppy that interaction with you, other humans and dogs is non-threatening and enjoyable, so that he has the best possible start in growing up to be a well adjusted dog. Your puppy can learn to come when called (recall), walk on a loose lead, sit, lie down, stand, stay and more, with play periods when he will be able to enjoy supervised off lead play with other puppies.
We also include lots of “owner education” on bringing up your puppy to be happy, healthy and well-mannered in and out of the home. As a behaviourist I am particularly concerned that owners understand the behavioural problems which can occur with maturity if puppies are not handled correctly, socialised with other dogs, people and particularly children and carefully introduced to the wider world in which they are expected to live. Our classes aim to provide all this and more in small, friendly groups.
