Rescue Dogs...
Rescue dogs come in all shapes and sizes, from the youngest puppies whose mothers gave birth in the rescue centre to elderly dogs. From Heinz 57s to crossbreeds who closely resemble one purebred parent to every breed you can think of, you will fmd them in a rescue centre. In addition, many of the Breed Societies run a rescue service just for their own breed.
I have a special interest in rescue dogs, I have owned many and both my present dogs are rescues. They are both lovely dogs; my mongrel is one of the nicest, most intelligent dogs I have ever had and the other is a Saluki who came to me as a three year old, has become a great friend to my older dog and is even well thought of by my four cats! Choosing a rescue requires special thought - they have already had one unhappy experience of being given up by an owner. You may learn their history from the rescue centre, but often they come with no known background. Behavioural problems which were not apparent in the kennels may be revealed once they are placed in a home, but if you make the right choice and are prepared to put in some time and effort I think there is nothing more rewarding than adopting a rescue. I look at my dogs and am so appreciative of them.
